Found the problem with ICQ: Basically internally a conversion from UTF16-BE to UTF8 is performed. Sadly for this the information is missing in the system. c.f. http://goo.gl/Q8RbU (feature request) and http://goo.gl/8zsCX (german howto/workaround)

UTF-8 encoding does not work properly in ICQ. I can receive German Umlauts and Eszett (ä, ö, ü and ß) but any message containing one of those will not be sent. Apart from that I have not experienced any crash or freeze so far (2hrs), CPU usage is nominal.
